Thanks,Thaddeus-I think you're right,Dead Souls was the name of that Winona Ryder flick(Hollywood was churning out a lot of end of the world themed movies back then,so it's hard to keep track).

Thanks for the tip about the contest,I do live in NYC area so perhaps I'll give it a shot. The first trailer I saw for You're Next certainly whet my appetite:)

lady thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16287907577241697874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13994370.post-37425337125248279702013-08-27T20:55:56.234-04:002013-08-27T20:55:56.234-04:00Great review! If I didn't, I guess it's lost amidst the various Revelations-leaning films that came out at the time, like End of Days (which you just reviewed) and that flick with Wynona Ryder (Dead Souls?, or something like that?).

It's kind of astonishing, because The Golden Child wasn't the best movie ever, but I remember it being able to create this scary atmosphere, one full of tension and dread. It doesn't sound like this succeeds on that level at all.

I don't love horror more than other genres, but I always respect how hard it is to pull off successfully. This is why I will always stump for films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Deep Red, Bad Taste, 28 Days Later, Scream, and The Host. If you can't interest people in your cast or the situations they face, your movie has failed.

Hopefully, we'll all be watching better horror soon. You're Next has awful MTA posters, but the reviews are solid, so I'm hopeful.

PS, it sounds like you live in NYC - if so, there is a contest for movie tix this weekend and you might be interested.

I'd comment on your novel posts, but that takes more time to do properly...Thaddeushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17414047155226211676noreply@blogger.com
