The latest Frank Miller adaptation,300,hit the screens this weekend and made the kind of money you only see usually on the Fourth of July;$70 million. As one of the those who went to a matinee showing,I can truly say that this movie is worth every penny and more so.
From the gorgeous sepia tones that made the viewer feel as if they were in an Edith Hamilton mythology book to the brilliantly bloody battles,not to mention Gerald Butler as King Leonidas in all of his glory,300 brings the sword and sandals genre back more successfully than Timberlake does sexy.
There are plenty of good life lessons you can get from this movie,too. I know some critics think this movie is all guts and no brains but I beg to differ. Take a look at these slices of Spartan wisdom:
10) Only Spartan women give birth to real men.
9)No mercy. No prisoners. A good start.
8) If your enemies have enough arrows to blot out the sun,then simply fight in the shade!

So glad to see that so many people have enjoyed it. You're the fifth blogger I've stumbled across who really enjoyed this film. I was all gung-ho to see it when I first heard about it, but then I stupidly listened to critics who didn't have a kind word to say about it. Now I'm rethinking that error. :)

Yeah,I read alot of those reviews too ,but sometimes you just have to go with your gut instincts. The NYT was particularly harsh,saying that 300 was "as violent as Apocolypto and twice as stupid." Granted I didn't see Apocolypto(mainly due to Mel Gibson digust) but I'm sure that 300 is way smarter than that flick.
