Enjoy these wacky wedding pop culture moments

Weddings are one of those events that make for a great dramatic highpoint in any fictional setting, from soap operas to sitcoms,to both theatrical and made for TV films.

While many consider fantasizing about having that one "perfect" day to be old fashioned, materialistic and/or sexist,I say "Yes,it can be,but that doesn't mean that it can't be fun or funny, for that matter!"

Lighten up there, people. True, the whole "bridezilla" deal is so overdone but like most reality show subjects,it's highly exaggerated for entertainment purposes. Instead of brooding over the alleged real life version, let's have a look at a few of
my favorite fictional wedding scenes that give us all a reason to smile:

MURIEL'S WEDDING,ABBA STYLE

Now this is a favorite movie of mine for many reasons;Toni Collette as Muriel, who longs to reinvent herself and gain escape and acceptance from her self centered politician father and dysfunctional family,Rachel Griffiths as her best friend Rhonda who gives Muriel the confidence she needs but doesn't always get it in return(and is not shy about voicing her opinions)and the loving tributes to ABBA that serve as the film's liberating theme music.

One of the best uses of an ABBA song in the film is the scene where the delusional Muriel walks beamingly down the aisle as everyone else around her is well aware of the circumstances of this arranged marriage she's entering into. Say what you want about the girl, she does have good taste in bridal themes:

BRIDE OF BEETLEJUICE

One of the most memorable sequences from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice(besides the "Day-O" number) is the ghost exorcism which uses the wedding clothes of the Maitlins as lures to the death trap that awaits them in the hereafter, followed by Lydia's almost marriage to Beetlejuice as payment for saving her ethereal friends.

So many good things to love about this bit;Lydia's blood red bridal gown, the awful sculptures coming to life and forcing the senior Deets to be witnesses to the ceremony, Barbara riding to the rescue on the back of a giant sandworm and the line,"Dad,the dowry's on me!":

UGLY BETTY'S BEST MAN AND AMANDA MOMENTS

Weddings aren't just about the bride and groom, you know;it's those folks on the sidelines who share in the pomp and circumstance of the day as well. Check out Marc and Amanda's adventures during the permanently stalled Slater/Meade wedding on this season's Ugly Betty(also note that Amanda name checks milkshakes before the whole There Will Be Blood milkshake quotes sensation):

THOSE GILMORE GIRLS AND THEIR IMPROMPTU BACHELORETTE PARTIES!

Out of all the weddings shenanigans that have prevailed over the seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, one of the sweetest has to be Richard and Emily's "vow renewal" ceremony that caused just as much ruckus as any other wedding on the show.

Bachelor parties for both guys and gals have been well represented on the series but Emily's bachelorette bash is most amusing, especially after Emily gets a few drinks in her-as Babette says, she's just a broad underneath it all:

WE WERE SUPPOSED TO PLAN A PARTY?

EMILY GILMORE,PARTY GIRL

Happy wedding to everyone out there having one or just attending one. As for the rest of us,maybe we should rent 27 Dresses and see what all the fuss is about:
