Some snappy song selections for your Election Day party
Today's the big day, folks and I hope that everyone who is properly registered goes out to vote for the candidate that you believe is the best person for the job. That's what an election really is,in my opinion-it's one incredibly long job interview.
Regardless of the results, the most important thing to keep in mind is that this whole process will finally be over and done with, for another four years at least.
We all need to take some time to relax and blow off most of that hyped up social steam that this campaign has fogged us all in for months now. In other words,it's party time!
To give your Election Day celebration a groovy beat to dance to,here are a few musical suggestions for whoever is your DJ to get this party started right:
DANCING A LITTLE SIDESTEP
Politicians on either side of the aisle do have one thing in common;at some point, they do have to play a bit of verbal do-see-do with the press. This song and dance number from The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas can be very nonpartisan,if you let it be:
THAT'S ALL I ASK OF YOU,HONEY!
It's been proven that the passionate music of ABBA has extraordinary powers(a good example of that is the success of Mamma Mia!,on stage and screen)and out of the many great songs in their line-up,this one is best suited for everyone to dance to,red state or blue. After all, isn't that what politicians are asking you to do on Election Day,take a chance on them?:
YOUR NAME UP ON THAT LIST
Some of you first time voters might be a tad anxious about going to the voting booths today but don't worry, people. Just hum this little Legally Blonde ditty in your head while pulling that lever and you'll feel so much better than before:
A TRIO OF VICTORY SONGS
Towards the end of the night, you'll be looking for that perfect song that either expresses your joy or drowns your sorrows about who won or lost. To give you plenty of democratic options, here are three finale songs to choose from.
The first one comes from the season five episode of Gilmore Girls, where Jackson runs for town selectman against the annoyingly twee Taylor. At Jackson's victory party, the band Hep Alien is enlisted to perform a favorite song of his,the theme to "The Greatest American Hero." How meta is that(especially with Sebastian Bach's impromptu tribute to Jimi Hendrix tossed into the mix)?:
Next up is the literal show stopper tune from Hairspray,You Can't Stop The Beat. This song is an irresistible toe tapper and I defy anyone feeling like a Gloomy Gus to not perk up a little bit upon hearing this:
Last but not least is the modern day classic,We Are The Champions. It may have become a total cliche at this point to go straight for this song, but you have to admit that it's a true unifying tune. Not many songs fit right into sporting events and dance mixes like the porridge that Goldilocks chose, folks. Please try to keep that spirit of all for one and one for all as the final vote count comes in. A party is best enjoyed when everyone is having fun together:
